My Sister's Mustang
by Sandra Jackson-Opoku
directed by Maya Vinice Prentiss*
About
My Sister’s Mustang is a historical coming of age story that sets race and identity against the landscape of love. When air traffic controllers strike in the early 1980’s, sixteen-year old Anna Williamson believes her life is ruined. President Reagan fires the strikers en masse, and her father JONATHAN gets the job of a lifetime when the field begins to open up for African Americans. The family moves from Chicago to the working class suburb of Bensenville, where Anna is the only Black student in the entire high school.
